Movie Costumes in 2010: It’s a wrap!

The Christmas festivities are pretty much underway, and New Year’s Eve the perfect time for a party. So let’s have a look at some of the big hitting movies of the year, and licensed costumes that followed them…

An unrivalled blockbuster was James Cameron’s eagerly awaited opus, Avatar. Boasting special effects that made the most of the new 3D cinema technology, this story of ecology and colonialism wowed cinemagoers with stunning visuals. Avatar licensed costumes offered fans a chance to dress as their favourite Na’vi characters while preserving their modesty!

2010 also had its share of superhero films, and the Marvel camp threw in its metal clad all-American powerhouse, with the movie Iron Man 2. This all action outing gave us more of the jet flying, human rocket launcher, played with aplomb by Robert Downey Jr. And if the proposed Avengers movie does go ahead, we should see him again among that famous team up, along with Thor and Captain America.

Another welcome return came from our old friends Woody and Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the Toy Story gang. As ever, Woody and Buzz are wildly popular costume ideas because they’re loved by so many people of different generations. Both kids and adults sizes of Toy Story 3 costumes are massively successful.

Reaching the end of his epic adventures is Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 sees the boy wizard beginning his final showdown with the evil Voldemort! It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 10 years since we first saw a very young Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint take on life in Hogwarts and battling the forces of evil.

While sequels were, as usual, evident among Hollywood’s output this year, very few have a gap as wide as Tron and Tron Legacy. In fact, 28 years have passed between these movies, and it seems the new film could surpass the popularity of the original. And you too can now be your own “Tron Guy” thanks to new licensed costumes and accessories from the film.

So what can we expect in the future? Upcoming movies for 2011 include more returning characters, with Pirates of the Caribbean and Captain Jack Sparrow sailing in on the horizon. We also have X-Men: First Class, the aforementioned Thor and DC Comic’s very own test pilot superhero Green Lantern too. Plenty of scope for costume ideas, with a few surprises to come too…
